This New Journey brings us over the Bridge
This new journey we have to take the “Waal” bridge. A very busy bridge, lots of traffic to deal with. A challenge for the horses. We search for other routes but it is not possible this river to pass from other directions. What we see at the bridge is frightening. A line of traffic from one site to the other. Cars move slowly because of an obstruction. There is a big maintenance going on. Closed
The approach road we have to take is closed. The only choice we have is to merge in with the traffic on the highway. That’s not very easy and safe to do with a horse-drawn carriage. We decide to make a phone-call to the police for help. That’s a delusion. The only thing they say it’s forbidden to merge into the highway. Maybe we can take the bicycle road parallel to it. I take a look but it’s to small. We decide to take the risk and to go for it. No traffic at all Step by step we go forwards. Soon there is no car in front of us anymore! Now we take care of the traffic jam!
People in the cars are looking with big eyes the minute we merge in. Its difficult and exciting the way the horses behave. They really “bomproof”! There was only one moment of fear. A big bus, next to us is so overwhelmed with this picture he use his brakes. The noise frightened Aysha and Isabella and it’s getting dangerous. After our "friendly gesticulates" he goes on again and we are at the end of the bridge. As soon as possible we look for a quit place for lunch.
The second challenge to take is the 7-hills road. Known from the hardest one to take at the annual four-day walking event. It’s the first time the horses have to work real hard. But they do extremely well. We take the time to rest, also do some adjusting at the brakes and harness. Beautiful day and a other amazing journeys to come. Thea
